Using the “Include Ingredients” filter
To find this feature, click the “Filter” button on the recipes or meal plans page and scroll to the bottom of the filters. Type to search ingredients and select the ones you want to include in your search. This feature will come in handy when:
- You bought a specialty ingredient that you want to find other ways to use (e.g., harissa paste, Chinese black vinegar, Thai green curry paste).
- You have some produce hanging out in the back of the fridge that need to be used up before it goes bad.
- You want to plan your meals around your garden harvest, CSA box, or what’s on sale at the grocery store.
- You’re craving a particular ingredient.

To get the most out of this feature, keep in mind:
- The more ingredients you enter, the fewer results you’ll get. The filters combine with one another, so filtering for “carrots” + “tahini” will only show you recipes that use both ingredients.
- If you’re looking to build out your week with multiple recipes, you’ll have the most options if you filter for ingredients one at a time. For example, first search “carrot” to find a recipes that uses carrots, and then search “tahini” to find a recipe that uses tahini.
- Enter specific ingredient names for accuracy, but broad ingredient categories for more options.
- For example, if you enter “Roma tomatoes,” you’ll get recipes that are specifically designed for that tomato variety.
- On the other hand, if you enter “tomatoes,” you’ll get more recipe and meal plan options because you’ll see all recipes that use fresh tomatoes.
- Finally, entering “any tomato ingredients” will show you the most results, including recipes that use ingredients like “tomato paste” and “sun-dried tomatoes.” Use this option if you’re craving tomato flavor in general, but not if you’re looking to use up a specific fresh tomato variety.
Using the “Exclude Ingredients” filter
To find this feature, click the “filter” button on the recipes or meal plans page and scroll to the bottom. Type to search ingredients and select the ones you want to exclude in your search. This feature will come in handy when:
- You or someone you’re cooking for has a particular allergy or intolerance.
- You’ve already eaten a particular ingredient recently and you want to exclude it.
- You don’t have certain ingredients at home and you don’t want to run to the store.

To get the most out of this feature, keep in mind:
- The more ingredients you enter, the fewer results you’ll get. The filters combine with one another, so filtering to exclude “tofu” and “eggplant” will only show you recipes that exclude both ingredients.
